Wear red on Friday for women’s heart health

This Friday, Feb. 1, is National Wear Red Day®.

National Wear Red Day is always the first Friday in February, which is designated at American Heart Month.

The day is organized by Go Red For Women, which was created by the American Heart Association in 2004 to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke as the leading cause of death for women. Empowering women to take charge of their heart health is a goal of Go Red for Women.

According to the AHA, only 55 percent of women realize heart disease is their No. 1 killer and less than half know what are considered healthy levels for cardiovascular risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol. The Go Red For Women effort works to make sure women know they are at risk so they can take action to protect their health.

Staff at Greene County Medical Center invites local businesses to join them in wearing red this Friday in recognition National Wear Red Day. They invite employers to post a picture on Facebook of employees wearing red. Tag Greene County Medical Center in the post and use hashtag #WearRedDay.
